Global Wildlife Center’s Dr. Kanyon McLean Attends American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) Conference
Dr. Kanyon has been in Toronto, Canada this past week at the annual American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) conference. This year the conference is combined with the annual European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians (EAZWV) conference. Dr. Kanyon enjoys attending AAZV each year to rekindle relationships with old friends and meet new colleagues from all over the globe.
As the AAZV International Committee Co-chair, Dr. Kanyon excitedly helped to welcome many veterinarians from developing nations who were awarded the Murray Fowler International Committee (MFIC) Scholarship this year. Dr. Kanyon oversaw the annual AAZV Zoo Day MFIC Scholarship fundraiser, as well; the Darting Competition! Attendees donate money to the scholarship fund in exchange for testing their darting skills. It was a fun time for all! Even Dr. Kanyon gave it a go! The week-long conference begins with a weekend of hands-on workshops followed by didactic scientific presentations covering a variety of topics in the fields of zoological and wildlife medicine. Among other hands-on training, Dr. Kanyon participated in a browse/silage workshop. Through collaborations like the AAZV Conference, we continue to expand our knowledge and enhance the welfare of the animals in our care.
