National STEM Day At Global Wildlife!
Global Wildlife celebrated its first National STEM Day on Nov. 8th, 2024, alongside our partners and 500 students visiting from local schools! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and STEM Day and Global was all about bringing these disciplines to our students and showing how they relate to our amazing wildlife.
Students got to make anemometers and magnetometers, study the mosquito lifecycle under the microscope, learn about wildlife rehabilitation, and identify wildlife and plants from Bayou Manchac right here at the Visitor Center! We also put our visitors to the test in the Great Giraffe Race – a race to beat a giraffe’s best time over a 50 ft sprint!
A special thank you to our partners: Northshore Stem and The Brain Food Truck, Turtle Cove Research Station, St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement, Husser Fire Department and Silent Voices Wildlife Rehabilitators. A big shout-out to our volunteers, including the Mandeville Kiwanis group and Cyndi and Michaelyn for their help! We had so much fun putting on this event and we cannot wait for next year!
