Kangaroo Classroom

Leap into Learning With A New Educational Offering!

We are thrilled to announce an all-new immersive educational experience at Global Wildlife Center: The Kangaroo Classroom! This 30-minute guided activity invites students to step into the world of the Red Kangaroo (Osphranter rufus) and trade their textbooks for clipboards in a real-world “Scientific Study.”

What is the Kangaroo Classroom?

The Kangaroo Classroom isn’t just a lesson; it’s a Walkabout adventure. Students enter our specialized kangaroo habitat to observe our “agreeable” resident mob up close. Under the guidance of our experts, young researchers will practice the foundation of all science: observation.

From tracking the number of “boomers” (males) and “flyers” (females) to spotting tiny “joeys” peeking from their mothers’ pouches, students will engage in active field research.

A Tailored Experience for Every Age

We believe science should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’ve designed unique curricula for different grade levels:

  • Pre-K to 1st Grade: Little explorers will learn through animal nursery rhymes and “Good Neighbor” rules, focusing on basic needs like food, water, and rest.
  • 2nd to 3rd Grade: Students dive into life cycles and group survival, comparing the Australian Outback to our local Louisiana habitats and even examining fossils from ancient, giant kangaroos.
  • 4th to 6th Grade: Older researchers tackle complex topics like thermoregulation (how kangaroos lick their arms to stay cool) and the intricate food webs that power the Australian ecosystem.
  • All Ages: Perfect for camps of mixed age groups, this unit focuses on “old-school observation!”

Walkabout Wisdoms

To keep both our students and our kangaroos happy, every participant follows our “Walkabout Wisdoms.” This includes moving slowly (no running!), talking quietly to avoid startling the animals, and staying on the designated roped paths—after all, this is the kangaroos’ home!. To ensure the health of our animals, everyone will also participate in a quick “sanitation squish” for their shoes before entering.

Take Home Memories

Every student will receive a Kangaroo Classroom Worksheet to record their findings—from sketching unique kangaroo feet to mapping out a food web. At the end of the program, they’ll even walk away with a souvenir pencil to continue their scientific journey at home.

Ready to join the mob? Whether you’re a teacher planning the ultimate field trip or a parent looking for a “hoppy” summer adventure, the Kangaroo Classroom is ready for you. Book your next adventure today! Ask our reservationist at frontdesk@globalwildlife.com or (985) 796-3585 x 0 to add-on the Kangaroo Classroom before or after your educational Safari Wagon Tour!
