Happy Birthday, Kameel!
Global Wildlife Center is thrilled to celebrate a very special birthday — our beloved giraffe matriarch, Kameel, is turning 32! Born in 1993, Kameel holds a remarkable place in our hearts and in our history as the very first giraffe ever born at Global Wildlife. The daughter of Slim and Daisy, she has grown into a symbol of grace, leadership, and legacy.
Kameel is more than just a crowd favorite — she’s a true icon. With her calm spirit, striking beauty, and nurturing heart, she’s captured the affection of visitors and staff alike. Over the years, she’s raised more than 10 giraffe calves, including Zira, our second-oldest resident at 23 years old. Today, four generations of Kameel’s family call Global Wildlife home — including granddaughter Sara and great-granddaughter Amari.
While giraffes in the wild typically live around 25 years, Kameel’s milestone birthday is an extraordinary testament to the care she receives and the conservation mission we live by every day.
